Ask Chelsea...

Calling all fashionistas! We will be bringing a few regular blogs your way in the coming months. In an effort to make South Dakota and the world a more beautiful place, we will help you figure out how to wear those totally trendy pieces and make them work for you. Are you curious about a certain style or how to flatter your figure? Just ask Chelsea! We will be answering your questions, once a month (or more if there is a fashion emergency).

In honor of the start of school, this month’s question comes from a teacher who wants an A+ wardrobe.

Q. So I'm the least trendy person I know but I do wear crop pants to work a lot and I'm experimenting with chocolate brown this year. How can I incorporate current trends and still be taken seriously on the job?
~Fashion-Challenged Teacher

A. Being a teacher does not mean that you have to flunk in the style department. Pairing your timeless pieces with some fun and trendy accessories or colors is all it takes.
Since you spend a lot of time on your feet, I would recommend wedges or flats. A neutral wedge will compliment a large part of your wardrobe, and can act as a statement piece due to its height. You can be a little more daring with the flat! Jewel tones are on trend this season. Try emerald or wine ballet flats for a punch of practical color. Add in a soft blouse in a neutral color like this and classic cardigan in a bold, current shade. By placing the splash of color on your timeless piece, you are ensuring its lasting quality in the same way that a safe color works with a bold blouse.

Maintain your polished look by finishing this off with a skinny belt around your waist, and a leather watch.  What’s great about each of these items is that they can work really well with skirts, trousers and your brown crop pants.
Here are a few other looks that we love on trendy teachers.

Have you ever met a teacher who didn't own a denim jacket? Roll up those sleeves and dress it up with a maxi dress or skirt and some simple accessories.

Khaki gets a nice lift with a few nautical touches and a smart blazer.

Don't forget boot socks this year!

With a little help from Chelsea’s, I have no doubt your students will be asking where you shop!
