Closet Challenge

I have a challenge for you! As fall quickly approaches, so does the need for a closet makeover. If you're anything like me, your closet is perfectly organized for a grand total of a week at any given time. Otherwise, it's a mess that you're always wishing resembled the color-coded racks of the department stores and boutiques. (I learned something about Chelsea at Market in Dallas, she can't STAND non-color coded racks or stores :))

So, I remembered this idea that I've put to good use in my own personal closet before. It's the
"turned hanger" theory. At the beginning of a new season, I go through my closet and put away everything that is off-season into storage or further back in my closet and away from sight. I bring my (in this case) fall and winter clothes forward and into plain view. Ahhh...*sighs of relief* all of my adorable fall clothes are still there. Firstly, simply go through them and take out anything that you believe has gone "out of style" from last year to this year. I'll be honest, that's usually nothing for me. Call me a horde. But...here's the fun part...

When I have decided what stays and what goes, I face ALL of my hangers the annoying "backwards" way - as some are illustrated in the above photo. Hang your clothes on your rack in such a way that you have to remove the entire hanger/garment off of the rack to evaluate your chosen piece. After wearing the selected piece, it can now go back on the rack, on a hanger, facing the usual way so that you can easily remove it for the next time.

What the heck is the point of this? For me, this is simply the easiest way to purge my closet after the current season is over without needing to put a lot of thought into it. You can't find a MORE OBVIOUS way to decide what needs to be donated/given away to charity at the beginning of a new season than by simply looking in the closet to see what is still hanging on a backwards facing hanger!! If you haven't changed the orientation of the hanger, you likely haven't worn that garment ALL SEASON! Donate it to someone who will. ;)

Stay Fab.
