DIY: Paper Flowers
We are notorious at the Boutique for our awesome window displays and on Monday, Chelsea and I decided that we were so fed up with the Winter themed marshmallow 'snow' in the window, that we went ahead and switched to our Spring inspired window! And - not to brag or anything - but it's SO cute and we are excited with how it turned out. I thought I'd share with all of you how I made those adorable tissue-paper flowers.
Step One: I suppose I forgot to take a photo of this first step. Whoops! But, what you need to do is cut your sheets of tissue paper into squares (sheets generally come in large rectangles). Vary with the size of square to accomplish different sized flowers. I used blue, light pink, dark pink, white and yellow colors to make my flowers.
Step Two: Then, stack sheets of tissue paper squares (I found that four sheets seemed to be the best thickness) on top of each other. The way you stack your colors will be the ultimate outcome of what your flower looks like. You'll see this in the photos to come...
Step Three: Accordion fold! Literally, just how you'd imagine it.

Step Four: When you've folded the
square all the way, wrap a pipe
cleaner around the center of your little
creation. The pipe cleaner allows for
you to be able to, eventually, wrap
the flower around something if that's
the goal you're looking for. In our case,
I knew that I would need to wrap
the flowers around the frames. ;)

Step Five: Cut the ends of the
rectangle to create the shape of
the petals of your flower. Shown
here is a flower that will end up
resembling a daisy. (Darn, should've
gotten a manicure before this.)
Step Six: Here's the fun part. Now, you're ready to
unfold your petals from their accordion and see what
you've created! Carefully spread apart the folds and
separate the layers of tissue paper. I'll admit, I ripped a
couple of petals off but when you're fluffing up your
paper, you'll be able to mask a few rips. No need to
toss away a whole flower that only has a rip or two. :)

Fluff fluff fluff away until you get to the shape that you want! The tissue is super easy to manipulate.
Here's a photo of an ombré inspired flower I made. I really
love the way the rounded petals turned out! So cute!
Here's a photo of the finished product! Stop into the Boutique to check out how it looks in person!
And...Happy it's almost Spring!
....also, I should add...the flowers (tissue paper, a razor blade for easy cutting and pipe cleaners) were ONLY a total of $17!!
