What to Wear: From Day...To Night

Let's take a break from Ways to Wear It this week and talk about
a topic that we get asked a lot of questions about. In our fast-paced (some may argue there's no such thing in Sioux Falls but I disagree...) day to day world, sometimes there is only a ten minute window to go from your day outfit to your night outfit. Challenge accepted. Here's how to look appropriate all hours of the day EVEN when in a crunch for time.

We'll give a couple examples and then break down what was done in each outfit:

Nighttime Dressy-ness: Casual

I love both of these combinations for a few reasons. Mainly, I like that the way that this is taken from day to night is NOT by changing the browns to blacks, but by simply changing accessories. This is one of the easiest ways to change the entire look of an outfit.
Day: Light green tones, basic t-shirt and a cardigan paired with flats and simple accessories.
Night: Darker green tones, basic t-shirt but covered with a slick blazer and finished with a belt, chunky necklace and heels. Not to mention trends on point with the lace and green tones. I am in love with this combination. This is perfect for a day out shopping and a casual dinner on a patio DTSF.

Nighttime Dressy-ness: Semi Formal

In need of a major transformation? Maxi dress style. Adding denim to an otherwise somewhat dressy maxi (this one is gorge) is an easy way to make it more casual. I would switch out the boots for some strappy brown sandals. I love how this outfit isn't afraid to mix brown and black!
Day: Maxi with denim vest = perfection. Strappy sandals and a lightweight bag will finish off this look.
Night: Here's that blazer again! Seriously such a great way to dress up an outfit. This is the perfect illustration of the 'brown-to-black' idea from day to night. Heels (I would've chosen a heeled black strappy shoe or a sparkly wedge here) will complete your look.

Nighttime Dressy-ness: Formal

Ah...yes. The LBD. Can't live without it and it's a staple in every well-dressed woman's closet.
Day: This outfit is perfect for work. Completely appropriate for many different things. The flats and scarf tone down the dressy-ness of the black dress and the cobalt blue color is wonderful.
Night: Loose the flats, scarf and blazer and spice things up with chunky jewelry, heels and red lipstick. That took about 30 seconds to change, didn't it. ;)

RECAP:
Keep these simple suggestions when making the fast change from day to night and you'll be appropriate for EVERY hour of the day...
1. Light toned colors to deeper jewel tones.
2. Flats to heels.
3. Brown to black.
4. Chap-stick to red lipstick.

Gosh...you look fabulous.
