The craze of chalkboard paint has not weakened. We stumbled upon this great combo, though, while looking for some craft inspiration. Lia Griffith realized a way to combine three useful elements into one adorable outcome.
Her website (HERE) shows her process in the simplest way possible - five little steps.
1) Begin with a frame. The one shown here is recycled. She thrifted it and then repainted it that gorgeous green color.
2) Purchase a piece of foam board from a craft store. As long as it's big ENOUGH you can always cut it down to the size you need to fit your frame. Hobby Lobby or Michael's sells these for (size depending) $3.99-9.99.
3) Next you'll need to paint your piece of foam board with chalkboard paint. There are a million different brands and types of this paint now. Experiment a little and find which one works best for you. Because foam board is porous and has little teeny holes you'll need to apply a few coats to achieve the best outcome. Make sure you let each coat FULLY dry before layering paint.
4) When your paint is completely dry, overnight would be best, attach it to the back of your frame with a few nails. Granted this is generally decorative so it doesn't need to be fastened to withhold major impact.
5) Done. It's that easy. Now because you used foam board, you not only have a chalkboard but you also have a pinboard. Two-in-one. When you feel like it's getting a little worn out - buy a new piece of foam board and replace the old one. Good as new.
Here is an example of her final outcome. Stinkin' adorable, right? Right.
