Ways to Wear: Summer Dress in Fall
There's no reason to let go of your favorite summer dress just yet. Though I love my Octobers, I would take an eighty degree day over anything all of the time. Today's blog post will pick apart a few outfits that contain some of my own dresses - straight from the rack in my newly acquired walk-in closet (I'm still obsessed with saying that out loud and we moved in two months ago). We have featured for you two maxi dresses and two knee length dresses to show that there really is versatility in every style. When transitioning: layers, layers, layers.
Morning's don't bode well for my saggy baggy eyes - woof. Pre-coffee Becky is not a pleasant Becky. Just ask Chelsea...
Who cares! The clothes still look fabulous.
Dress #1: My FAVORITE maxi dress. What you can't see is that this also has an entirely open back. They make sweaters for that ;). No need to take a style like this out of the running.
Chelsea styled this dress with a patterned shrug that we have at the boutique. The teal, brown and green undertones in the shrug bring this dress from summer to fall quite nicely. I've added a pair of black leggings to keep me warm in loo of the slits each side of this dress has. You could do brown leggings as well! Flats and socks or boot socks and boots will look great. Finishing the style with a chunky and snuggly scarf rounds out this look.
Dress #2: I bought this little love from the boutique two summers ago! My goal here is to illustrate how to dress bright summer colors in the fall. You will notice, though, a common theme in this dress and dresses through all seasons - color blocking.
We brought the notion of fall into this outfit by adding leggings, (you could do brown leggings as well) leg warmers, and a chunky scarf. Today is a great example of a fall day for this outfit. Sunny and mild - perfect for a lightweight denim jacket. The grey tones in the leg warmers are great with denim and the orange tones in both the scarf and the warmers mirror each other and bring cohesion to this outfit.
Dress #3: Here's another little shorty. I bought this when the nautical trend was in full swing and I have loved it ever since. Everyone loves navy this fall and so this one is easy!
This is also my favorite transition outfit. The military trend that is so big this year - I love it. Olive jacket, brown leggings and chunky 'combat' boots will keep me warm in colder temps, and, you can't miss that huge scarf. But you wouldn't want to...would you. :) Plaid AND a chunky knit. This is cold weather perfection if you ask me. Layers, layers, layers.
Dress #4: You may also recognize this little beauty. We had this on the racks at the boutique this last summer. I love that it's cotton, nothing fancy, and the simplicity is beautiful. I am also a huge advocate of bringing back the 90s.
This sweater is one you all begged to have on our boutique racks. So, we listened! One of my favorite things to do is mix patterns. You see that here with the floral, polka dots and the plaid. If this is a trend that worries you, begin simply by keeping everything in the same color family - like I have done here. With a sweater and some hidden leggings and boot socks under the skirt, I'm set.
