A Look at Empowering Women: EmBe

I'm sure you've caught on by now that, down at the boutique, we have this sort-of love affair with the empowerment of women. All kinds of women, from all walks of life, living each day together is a beautiful thing to embrace and cherish. We truly are all beautiful creations and we should love to celebrate and empower each other!

So there's this thing that EmBe puts on each year. This year is the 42nd annual EmBe Tribute to Women. This is an open event held that honors women in our community who are role models in their respective fields. The nominations are public, and we think that's pretty awesome. Giving our community the ability to recognize the women that they see as exceptional - that's amazing!

Why does EmBe put on this event?
"Your participation in this event will help EmBe to continue to empower women who choose to work outside the home by providing them safe, affordable childcare; empower young girls to believe that they can set goals and achieve things they are not sure they can, through Girls on the Run program and other youth recreation activities."

We thought it would be fun to hear from a few of this year's nominees, so, we asked a couple of questions:

What is the best thing about being a woman?

(My favorite part about this question is that every woman I spoke to commented on how compassionate women are - in general.)

"This incredible flexibility that comes with the female spirit – the I can do it!  I can make a difference!  I can love unconditionally!" - Valerie Loudenback

"I think women are strong - strong in different ways than men. Not only are we built to be strong enough to grow another life inside us, but we are strong physically and emotionally. While there are areas in society where the strengths of women are under appreciated, we have the freedom to feel all the emotions of life and are born to be leaders and influencers of others." - Kerri Tietgen

"Not knowing what it is like to be anything else but a woman, I want to say all of it.  But most specifically I think it is my relationships with other women.  The depth of conversations, support and unconditional love I experience with my close women friends." - Sara Crosby

"The best thing about being a woman is the best thing about being a human - individuality. We are all unique with our strengths and our flaws. So for me, the best thing is my intelligence, sense of humor, compassion and style." - Abby Bischoff

"For me personally, the way we are wired. Literally. Our ability to multitask and connect the dots is an amazing ability often overlooked." - Christie Aberson

What does empowering women mean to you?

"Empowering women to me means supporting each other.  Women can be so hard on themselves and on each other.  If we would believe in ourselves and support the good in each other, we could make a world of difference together." - Misten Langenfeld

"To encourage, advocate, and inspire one another to be our best self." - Christie

"Empowering women is shifting from a culture of competition to one of support. I see glimpses of both everyday. By listening and understanding each other's personal experiences, we can create culture where women aren't judged by their hair cut or their weight or their marital status or their career choices or their choice to have kids or not." - Abby

What is a quote or (what are) a couple of words you’d say you ‘live by’?

"I believe that the secret to everything begins first with learning to understand, accept and love ourselves." - Sara

“ We cannot all do great things – but we can do small things with great love." Mother Teresa -Valerie

"You cannot be all things to all people. Be unique. Be different. Be real.  Give to others what you want yourself. And do what you were made to do." - Misten

"The words I focus on each day are strength, faith and wisdom - these are the values that I strive to live by each and every day." - Kerri
