Styling the Bump

Surprise! I'm pregnant? (You knew that, didn't you...) ;)

This journey I've been traveling through over the course of the last 7-8 months has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. It's been, seemingly all at once usually within the same day, the most terrifying thing and the most precious thing I may ever encounter: the growing and preparation of/for our first child.

What happens when the time comes that none of your clothes fit? Is there really a necessity to spend a huge chunk of change on maternity clothes that you may only wear for a couple of weeks? Of course, each woman is different and we all find certain things to be more comfortable than others BUT...I'm going to suggest you save the $$ on maternity clothing and just explore new fits and sizes of 'normal' clothing.

We constantly have women stopping into the store letting us know they're expecting but they're not quite sure what's going to work. So, Chelsea thought it would be a good idea for us to snap some photos showing how we made 'normal' clothes fit! ;) It's all about waistlines and stretchy seams. We came up with TONS of things at the boutique that still worked just fine for me! And, they're all still a size small, (except the denim pencil skirt - ooftah on that one) which is my regular size here at the boutique. If that doesn't make you feel awesome...

I love this little flamingo tee! We chose this piece because it is long in length. The lightweight knit is perfect for expecting ladies and won't leave you too warm or uncomfortable. Paired with a trendy distressed denim pencil skirt, a little pair of white sneakers and I'm all set! I was actually able to button this under my belly.

Can I still see my feet?! :)

The next dress was chosen because of its slightly higher waistband. Though it fits a bit lower, normally, the elastic and the belt allowed for me to situate above my tummy. I'm about 5'4" so the length of the dress is still appropriately long. If you find a dress you love, but are worried that your belly makes it a bit too short in the front, just throw a pair of leggings under it! There are many lightweight options out there for summer pregos like myself. Side note: floral headbands are all the rage this summer and at the boutique we have some absolutely adorable ones all under $15!

Lastly, Chelsea put me in this ADORABLE purple maxi dress. The top itself has plenty of elastic so I was able to fit in this with ease. The sweetheart neckline shows off (though I have yet to really acquire these) one of the 'perks' of pregnancy. :D Because I'm shorter, the partial lining in the skirt was plenty long enough to cover me. If you're taller, opt for a maxi dress that is fully lined.

I will say that, at the end of the day, I've been living in maxi dresses since about January. They're so versitile and leave me with a million outfit options. Cotton and comfy = yes. If it's chilly, throw on a cardigan and denim jacket. Fake warmth with a pair of leggings underneath! No one will know.

I found that maternity tights & leggings were pretty unavoidable and - if you're a denim person, jeans may fit under this category as well. I used a couple of tricks, though, that you'll find below!

This trick still carries me through denim days. I don't love jeans anyway, personally, but I've found this trick to be amazing. Use a hair tie rather than a rubber band (they're comfier) and loop it through the button hole on your jeans. Then just close the gap by pulling the looped end over your button! Since you'll probably find that you prefer long shirts anyway, you really won't have to worry too much about your 'fly' showing. A long cami and shirt will cover it!

Early on in my pregnancy, my husband signed me up for a bunch of coupons through Motherhood Maternity (sweetie). One of them was a coupon code for two free Belly Button bands - I just had to pay for shipping. They button to the button of your pants and then you just pull it up over the top of your jeans. It looks like a layered tank and covers up your fly. Love.

Baby Squyer due July 10th!! <3
